PRICES AND WAGES Japanese consumer prices fell by 0.2% in July, and the 12-month rate of deflation fell slightly to 0.5%. In August, inflation slowed to 1.8% in Germany, remained at 2.6% in Italy and rose slightly in Belgium, to 2.9%. In the 12 months to July, Italian workers received a pay rise of 2.0%, but saw their wages decline 0.6% in real terms.
