Editor’s note (January 26h 2021): Stephen Breyer, one of the Supreme Court’s three liberal justices, will retire at the end of the court’s current term. Joe Biden will nominate his successor, ensuring the court keeps its 6-3 split between conservatives and liberals. He has previously promised to put the first black woman on the court.
