Federal employees in America were told to stay at home or worked without pay, as a stand-off between the Republicans and the White House resulted in the first government shutdown in 17 years. Congressional Republicans forced the shutdown by withholding support for a temporary-spending bill, because Democrats refused to countenance their demands to “defund” or delay Obamacare. See article
