ECONOMY Although Argentina's GDP growth slowed in the first three months of this year, its robust performance continues. GDP rose by around 2% in the quarter, to stand 8.1% higher than a year before. Russia's annual rate of consumer-price inflation fell to 14.6% in May; in May 1996 it was 58.5%. Inflation in Hungary and the Czech Republic also slowed a bit in May.
