PRICES AND WAGES Producer-price inflation in the euro area slowed slightly to 5.5% in the 12 months to July. American workers' pay rose by 3.8% in the 12 months to August, an increase of 0.3% in real terms. In the year to July, Japanese workers had a pay rise of only 1.2%, but because prices are falling, this amounted to a real increase of 1.7%.
