PRICES AND WAGES In August Britain's annual inflation rate rose to 3.5%, the highest for almost two years, thanks to higher mortgage-interest payments. In the same 12 months Germany's inflation rate rose to 2.1%, the highest since January 1995; Dutch inflation was 2.6%, the highest since December 1994. In the year to August, American workers' pay rose by 3.6%.
