Politics this week
Theresa May, Britain’s prime minister, outlined a timetable for Brexit negotiations, saying she would trigger Article 50, the formal process for leaving the European Union, by the end of March 2017. The pound fell to a fresh 31-year low against the dollar. But the FTSE 100 share index, which is made up of many export-dependent companies, surged to its highest level in more than a year.
