Political fragmentation in Britain is here to stay

Glance around the chamber of the House of Commons in 2025 and British politics appears quite stable. A mass of Labour mps spill over the green government benches and up into the aisles, having tallied more than 400 of a possible 650 seats in the general election of 2024. With their support, the government can legislate more or less as it wishes.
