Donald Trump slowed the process of choosing his treasury secretary. The contest had narrowed to a close race between two candidates: Scott Bessent, a hedge-fund boss, and Howard Lutnick, head of a broking firm and Mr Trump’s transition chief. But after Elon Musk, one of Mr Trump’s closest advisers, blasted Mr Bessent as “a business-as-usual choice” on Friday, Mr Trump began a rethink. He is now reportedly considering Kevin Warsh, who sat on the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, and Marc Rowan, a private-equity titan. The treasury secretary will be responsible for implementing his economic agenda, including a sugar rush of tax cuts.
