MONEY AND INTEREST RATES On August 11th the Bank of Japan raised its overnight call rate to 0.25%; interest rates had been held at zero since February 1999. The 12-month rate of growth in broad money in the United States rose to 9.0% in July, but slowed to 5.9% in Sweden.
