Maternal mortality

The World Health Organisation and UNICEF estimate that nearly 600,000 women die every year from complications associated with pregnancy and childbirth. The toll is greatest in poor countries such as the Central African Republic, where malnutrition, rampant disease and inadequate health care threaten both mother and child.
