Stockmarkets
Among the stockmarkets we are now covering on this indicator page, China's flourished the most last year, rising by almost 140%. This marked an impressive turnaround from its lacklustre showing in 2004 and 2005 when share prices fell each year. Venezuela, the worst performer in 2005—when share prices fell by more than 30%—also staged a comeback with a gain of nearly 100%. Other oil producers, such as Russia—up by just over 70%—and Indonesia, sparkled. India shone brightly too, with a rise of about 60%. Although stockmarkets in developing economies were the top performers, investors in some advanced economies, such as Spain and Sweden, made handsome gains in dollar terms.
